Gay Venice

Venice,
Italy

Venice, Italy.
Gay and Lesbian Hotels, Inns and Guest Houses - Reviews and Ratings. Gay and Lesbian Travel.

Venice is one city that every gay and lesbian traveler should visit at least once. It is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Whether arriving by plane or train, you will never forget the moment when you step from the 21st century into the 16th century. For over 500 years it has remained largely unchanged; the Canaletto painting of the Grand Canal seen in the Gallerie dell'Accademia differs little from the present day view outside the gallery.

Venice has limited gay and lesbian hotels or guesthouses but there are plenty of gay friendly hotels and guesthouses ranging in price and in amenities for the gay and lesbian traveler from which to choose.

Once you’ve stepped off the vaparetto (water taxi), your hotel launch or gondola, be prepared to walk, and walk. This world famous city of water canals (over 150 spanned by 400 bridges), built of wooden pilings pounded into Venetian mud, changes with the seasons. The summer is notoriously over-crowded; autumn is plagued with high tides and flooding. Winter hosts the infamous Carnival and spring is less crowded and surprisingly vibrant.

The city is a living museum, they even call St Mark's Square "the world's drawing room". Every step you take bring into view a new vista of amazing beauty and stunning color. Piazza San Marco, St Marks Basilica, Uffizi
Gallery, St Mark’s Square, Grand Canal, Ponte Rialto, San Giorgio Maggiori, the list of sights to see is endless. Then don’t forget the islands in the lagoon - the Lido, Murano, Burano and Torcello. And take plenty of cash; Murano glass and Burano lace are truly beautiful but not inexpensive.

But perhaps the greatest magic of Venice is finding the unexpected. The little romantic family trattoria sitting beside a long forgotten canal or the one-man wood sculpture studio tucked behind the Accademia. One tip though, if you see something you want to buy – buy it because it’s guaranteed you’ll never find the shop or gallery or studio again, such is the nightmare, fun and magic of Venice’s street/canal address and house numbering system. One last tip, be prepared to get lost so good street map is a MUST.

So whether you are looking for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation in the Northern part of Italy, Venice is a truly romantic destination for the gay and lesbian traveler.
