Gay Strathdon

Strathdon, Aberdeenshire

Strathdon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland,
Gay and Lesbian Hotels, Inns and Guest Houses - Reviews and Ratings. Gay and Lesbian Travel.

Strathdon, Aberdeenshire lies in the heart of the Scottish highlands through which flows two of Scotland’s great salmon rivers, the Dee and the Don. The Dee is famous for its Royal connections and Balmoral Castle, the summer home of the Royal Family. The Don is less well known but has a wild and beautiful landscape with a mysterious and historic past. Even in the midst of summer, you will feel that you have entered the forgotten Scotland.

Strathdon has limited gay and lesbian hotels, guesthouses and bed and breakfast accommodations but there is a great selection of hotels, inn, guesthouses and bed and breakfasts offering a range of prices and amenities that will meet the need of the most discerning gay and lesbian traveler.

This area of the Cairngorms National Park is rich with ancient rights of way and forgotten glens. If mediaeval castles catch your imagination, then the extensive atmospheric ruins of Kildrummy and Glenbuchat are close by. You can take a guided tour around the fairytale splendour of the pink Craigievar Castle that inspired Walt Disney or the old Redcoat garrison of Corgarff Castle.

For garden lovers, the splendid gardens at Crathes Castle, the magical one created in a natural cleft below the ruins of Kildrummy Castle or the immaculate garden at Pitmedden in Lower Donside are a must to see.

If whisky is your ‘tipple’, you can follow the world-famous Malt Whisky Trail through Speyside to seven working distilleries, including a fascinating cooperage and a historic distillery. From Benromach to Dallas Dhu, a perfect time capsule of whisky-making; from Glen Moray to Strathisla, home and heart of Chivas Regal; from the Glen Grant distillery to the Speyside Cooperage where real coopers work with incredible speed and skill; from Glenfiddich to The Glenlivet and the Cardhu distillery, Scotland’s whisky trail signposts lead you through the picturesque lush countryside of Speyside, the world’s favourite malt whisky region.

And if golf is your ‘bag, then you will have to leave the romantic places for another day, and choose from the 54 courses that this area offers to all levels of player. A particular gem is the oft-featured
Tarland course.

So, whether you’re looking for peace and quiet, long moorland walks, history, a challenging round of golf, romance, hearty highland food and world famous single malt scotch, then Strathdon Aberdeenshire, is where the gay and lesbian traveler should be heading.
