Gay Siem Reap

Siem Reap,

Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Gay and Lesbian Hotels, Inns and Guest Houses - Reviews and Ratings. Gay and Lesbian Travel.

Nestled between rice paddies and stretched along the Siem Reap River, the small provincial capital of Siem Reap is the gateway to the millennium-old temple ruins of the Khmer Empire. Designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Angkor Archaeological Park encompasses dozens of temple ruins including Bayon, Banteay Srey and the legendary Angkor Wat whose artistic and archaeological significance visual impact put it in a class with the Pyramids, Machu Pichu and the Taj Mahal. Unlike many other world class monuments, the ruins of Angkor are as yet unspoiled by over-development.

Siem Reap Town is a cluster of old villages, originally developed around individual pagodas, and later overlaid with an French colonial-era center. Nowadays, Siem Reap offers a wide range of gay friendly up-scale hotels, guesthouses and smaller budget bed and breakfast accommodation for the gay and lesbian traveler. Though staying right in the middle of town is a bit more convenient to the Old Market and Sivatha Road area, the town is relatively small making any location as convenient as any other

There’s so much to see here that often missed are the many opportunities to experience traditional Cambodia: ‘Apsara’ dance performances, craft shops and silk farms, road tours through rice-paddy countryside, boat trips on the great Tonle Sap Lake to fishing villages and bird sanctuaries.

For a comparatively small town, Siem Reap offers an amazing range of cuisines and dining venues. The emphasis is, of course, on Khmer food, but European and other Asian cuisines are also well represented, including Italian, Thai, German, Vietnamese, Indian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and, of course, French. Given Cambodia's long relationship with France and France's gastronomic traditions, it is no surprise some of Siem Reap’s finest dining venues offer French cuisine. Also of interest to the gastronome, some newer venues are serving finely prepared Khmer-Asian-western fusion cuisines quite unique to Cambodia. Restaurants are scattered across the town but none is more than a 5-minute tuk-tuk ride away. Many restaurants, including several specializing in Khmer food, are concentrated into the Old Market area, especially around ‘Pub Street’ and along Sivatha Blvd. You should ensure you set aside one dinner to attend a traditional 'Apsara' dance performance.

Siem Reap’s nightlife stretches to near dawn these days with Pub Street coming to life around dusk and the last bars and clubs in town closing as late as 4:00am. Less crowded, less touristy, more individual clubs and bars can be found in the Old Market and Wat Bo area, along the river and Sivatha Blvd. And for something completely different, the Cambodian discos such as Zone One and Martini. There's more live music in Siem Reap nowadays with The Blarney Stone and Red Orchid offering Filipino bands playing live popular music every evening.

So, if you are looking for unique culture and art, cuisine, music, fun and excitement, then Siem Reap, Cambodia is the perfect destination for the gay and lesbian traveler.
