Gay Llandudno

Llandudno, Gwynedd
UK

Llandudno, Wales, UK.
Gay and Lesbian Hotels, Inns and Guest Houses - Reviews and Ratings. Gay and Lesbian Travel.

Llandudno is considered the premier North Wales holiday resort. It lies between two prominent headlands, the Great Orme and the Little Orme with the Irish Sea on one side and the estuary of the River Conway on the other. It is these headlands and the two waterfronts, the North Shore and the West Shore, that give the tourist resort of Llandudno its special appeal.

Llandudno has limited gay and lesbian hotels, inns, guesthouses and bed and breakfast accommodation. There are however a good choice in gay friendly hotels, inns, guesthouses and B&B’s offering a range of prices and amenities to meet the needs of most gay and lesbian travelers.
During the summer season, it is well worth booking ahead.

Much of Llandudno’s attraction seems anchored in Victorian times and the maintenance of traditions. “Punch and Judy” Shows still entertain the children as they have for over 150 years. Donkey and pony rides have been popular on Llandudno’s sandy beach for over 125 years. Elizabeth Hughes (the Donkey Lady) introduced donkeys to Llandudno and her family continue the tradition with others to the present day.

The 2,295 foot long Llandudno Victorian Pier, greatly admired by the poet laureate Sir John Betjeman, was built in 1878. It is the longest pier in Wales and one of the finest recreational piers in Britain.

On the West Shore is the house at Pen Morfa, built by the Very Revd Dr Henry Liddell, Dean of Christ Church Oxford, the father of Alice, of 'Wonderland' and 'Looking Glass' fame.

The Great Orme Tramway is a remarkable historical survival and celebrated it centenary in 2002. It is one of only three cable hauled street tramways still in existence world wide. The other two are in San Francisco USA and Lisbon, Portugal.

Llandudno’s annual Spring Carnival is held in May each year. The main shopping street closes to traffic and becomes home to traditional fairground rides and amusements. The highlight is the parade of steam engines and veteran and vintage motors.

Lastly, Llandudno is the perfect centre from which to tour Snowdonia, Caernarfon Castle, and other parts of North Wales and there are ample coach operators running day trips to these destinations.

So, whether you are looking for some peace and quiet, history, fun, and a quintessential seaside experience, Llandudno, Wales has a lot for the gay and lesbian traveler.
