Here you'll find the famous Torbay palm-lined promenade, seafront gardens, theater, leisure center, a bustling harbour and an international marina. The 22 miles of English Riviera Coastline is dotted with 19 beaches and coves so there is plenty of choice whether you’re looking for a lively beach with water sport facilities of one of the many smaller and more secluded coves. As the town grew in popularity as a tourist destination, it slowly expended to take in the nearby parishes such as Babbacombe and Cockington, famous for its Manor, working forge and gardens.

Over the years, Torquay’s hotels and guesthouses have accommodated many famous people. Charles Kingsley, author of The Water Babies, spending some time in what is now the Livermead House Hotel. An eccentric Torquay hotel proprietor was the inspiration for John Cleese to create Basil Fawlty and Fawlty Towers when he and the Monty Python team stayed at a Torquay hotel whilst filming one of their sketches.

As with similar English seaside resorts, Torquay offers a great variety of restaurants, cafés, bars, pubs and nightlife. Locally caught seafood provide the fish and chip shops with fresh produce each day and one local delicacy not to miss is a Brixham crab salad or a grilled Torbay sole.
