Gay Stockholm

Stockholm,
Sweden

Stockholm, Sweden.
Gay and Lesbian Hotels, Inns and Guest Houses - Reviews and Ratings. Gay and Lesbian Travel.

Stockholm, Sweden, the home of Abba, continues to be a European leader in gay-friendliness. Although over 750 years old, Stockholm is a modern, technologically- advanced, liberal and ethnically diverse city. Most gay and lesbian visitors are impressed by the beauty of Stockholm and enjoy the relaxed, safe and friendly atmosphere. Stockholm is often called the gay capital of Sweden and even of Scandinavia, but because of the small population in Sweden and Stockholm you shouldn't expect a large gay scene.

Sweden is one of the most liberal countries in the world when it comes to gay rights. It was one of the first countries introducing civil unions and anti-discrimination acts. People in Sweden, especially in Stockholm, are open-minded and inclusive so don’t be surprised by how many hotels, cafes, restaurants, bars and clubs that are explicitly gay-friendly.

For gay and lesbian travelers, Stockholm has a unique gay-friendly hotel alliance. Members include the Nordic Light, the Berns Hotel which hosts ‘Boybar’ on Saturday nights, one of the hottest parties in town, The Clarion, Hotel Stureplan, the charming Victory and the Grand Hotel. Prices and amenities range from modest to luxurious so there is plenty of choice for even the most discerning gay and lesbian traveler.

Culturally, Stockholm is a surprise to many, with its dozens of museums and numerous performance venues ranging from operettas’ to modern musicals. June 2009 saw the opening of ‘ABBA: The Museum’ much to the delight of gay and lesbian Abba Fans. Other exhibition range from African Dance Masks at the National Museum of Ethnography to the opening of Art Exposed, a new display of paintings from the collection of the wonderful late nineteenth-century Hallwylska Museum.

For the gay and lesbian shopaholic, Stockholm is a retail paradise offering everything from tiny boutique clothing stores to one of a kind knitwear emporiums selling some of the finest knitwear to we found anywhere in the world. Sweden has always been a world style leader, and as you explore the boutiques of Gamla Stan or Södermalm you’re likely to find something new and fabulous among the time-honored and stately.

The gay and lesbian lovers of excellent cuisine, Stockholm won’t disappoint. There is no end of exceptional restaurants reined over by cutting edge young chefs serving world class food and wine. One of the nicest gay/gay friendly bars in town is ‘Club Before” and should not be missed. It’s a great addition in a city where gay nightspots aren’t plentiful, largely because mixed places are so welcoming.

So for gay and lesbian travelers looking for a northern European destination offering a relaxed, accepting community who speak fluent English, exceptional restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs, a vibrant nightlife, culture and music, then Stockholm, Sweden has plenty to offer.
