Gay Motueka

Motueka, South Island
New Zealand

Motueka, South Island, New Zealand.
Gay and Lesbian Hotels, Inns and Guest Houses - Reviews and Ratings. Gay and Lesbian Travel.

At the top end of New Zealand’s South Island, lies the town of Motueka, located at the mouth of the Motueka River on the western shore of Tasman Bay. As you approach the town on Highway 60, you get the first glimpse of the stunning green hillsides and mountain peaks that surround it. Motueka is a vibrant town of potters, artists and reggae musicians. The art community is strong and supported by excellent studios and galleries.

There is a wide variety of gay- friendly places to stay around the Abel Tasman National Park, so there will be somewhere to stay for every taste and budget. Gay and lesbian accommodation is limited but there are any number of gay friendly guesthouses, boutique B&B’s, resorts and luxury hotels. For those gay and lesbian travelers on a budget, backpackers and self- catering chalets and cabins are very affordable.

Surrounding farmland is rich and fertile and apples, berries, olives, grapes and hops are grown for export and local consumption. This, together with the wealth of great local fish has encouraged the growth of fine dining restaurants and a great café scene. And don’t forget the excellent boutique wineries that have grown over recent years.

The beaches of Kaiteriteri and Marahau are nearby and are extremely popular destination with locals and tourists alike. And as the area gets some of the highest amounts of annual sunshine in New Zealand, this is yet another great reason to visit.

For the adventurous there is so much to do here; hiking, walking, bird watching, rafting, sea kayaking, fishing, hunting, caving and climbing. And that’s just for starters.

Motueka is one of the closest towns to the Abel Tasman and Kahurangi National Parks, the two jewels in the area’s crown. Home to the New Zealand's biggest national park, Kahurangi Park contains spectacular limestone caves, wild river gorges, rolling tufts of grasses and soaring stoned landscapes.

In contrast, the Abel Tasman National Park is New Zealand's smallest national park and boasts some of New Zealand's most stunning coastline. Quirky-shaped granite boulders jut out of crystalline, turquoise waters, perfect for lazing seals, while dolphins play in tidal estuaries.
The Abel Tasman Track is considered one of New Zealand's Great Walks.

So, for the gay and lesbian traveler looking for scenery, the outdoors, peace, adventure and all that New Zealand has to offer, then Motueka, South Island has plenty to offer.
