Cardiff is the Capital of Wales is home to Cardiff Castle, and host to the 1999 Rugby World Cup. It's a very friendly, tight community city and just 45 minutes from Bristol over the River Severn suspension bridge. The Welsh are famous for singing, playing rugby, drinking, druids, Eisteddfods, producing great men and women in politics, arts, literature, music and fashion. Their national flower is the daffodil and the national flag features a red dragon. The cute Welsh accent from the boys from the valleys is very alluring, but it might take a little while to get used to its distinctive sound. The gay scene in Cardiff is focused on two main areas - Charles Street in the heart of the city center and Bute Terrace, close to the train station. Both are minutes away from St. Mary Street - Cardiff's main bar area, and Queen Street, the main shopping area in the city.

For the gay and lesbian traveler, Cardiff has a great choice of gay-specific and gay friendly accommodation. Cardiff also has a several theaters, cinemas and is host to numerous festivals throughout the year. Originally a girlie-bar for sailors in the 19th century coal boom, the Golden Cross is now one of Cardiff's most popular gay venues. Regular entertainment includes local and international drag acts, strippers and a traditional pub quiz. Previously known as the King's Cross, KX is a popular gay bar located on the corner of the city's café quarter. The large ground floor bar serves snacks and light meals and regular events include stand up comedy, karaoke and live DJ's. If you want to check out Cardiff’s newest gay venue then head for the Icon Bar on Charles Street, Cardiff's main gay area. Club X is the largest gay and gay-friendly venue in Cardiff. The club features two dance floors, three bars, a games rooms and a covered garden terrace.

For the gay and lesbian shopaholic, there’s plenty of pedestrianised streets and undercover malls making Cardiff a popular shopping destination. Don't miss the Victorian and Edwardian arcades that criss-cross through the city center.
