Emerald is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Known for Emerald Lake Park is a national park that offers BBQ facilities, walking tracks, fishing, café and a railway station for Puffing Billy. The Puffing Billy Railway is a heritage steam operated railway opened in 1900, which runs between Belgrave and Gembrook, now recreating the heyday in the 1920s of this narrow-gauge line. It has three stations within Emerald—at Emerald, Nobelius and Lakeside. The Great Train Race (GTR) is an annual fun run from Belgrave to Emerald Lake in which participants attempt to beat Puffing Billy to the finish line and is organized by volunteers of the Puffing Billy Preservation Society.

Emerald has a great choice of gay-friendly hotels, guesthouse and bed and breakfast accommodation for the gay and lesbian traveler. Rates and amenities offered give plenty of choice to meet all budgets and individual tastes. Emerald also had a great selection of restaurants, bars, and cafés to enjoy during your stay.

Emerald WinterFest is an annual winter festival held on the last weekend in July taking place on Kilvington Drive in Emerald. The WinterFest consists of many small craft, food and antiques stalls. The highlight is a show where "Mad Macka" and the other bushrangers on horseback hold up Puffing Billy in an attempt to steal the Gold being carried on the train.

Throughout the year, there's always something happening in Emerald. PAVE or Performing And Visual Arts in Emerald, is a new festival taking place in mid April. The festival includes a number of activities taking place at different locations around Emerald over a number of days including an art and photographic exhibition, a Youth short film festival, craft market and live concerts.

For wine lovers, Paternoster Wines is a boutique winery with organically grown wines and well worth visiting for the wines and the views. The Bimbimbie Wildlife Park features deer, wombats, kangaroos, emus and farm animals in walk-through enclosures. The Australian Rainbow Trout Farm is located to the north-east of Emerald in the Macclesfield area and you can catch your own fish and picnic amidst the mountain ash and bellbirds.
