Cordoba Spain, emblem of the tolerance and comprehension for many centuries among three religions, Jewish, Christian and Muslim, offers unlimited surprises ranging from an intense past history to an incredibly artistic entertainment never seen anywhere else before. Cordoba is one of the eight provinces that form the Autonomous Community of Andalucia. The city was built on the shores of the River Guadalquivir and the fertile Cordoba region is cultivated with olive groves and vineyards.

Although there are few gay specific accommodations in Cordoba, there are a good selection of gay friendly hotels, inns and traditional guesthouses for gay and lesbian travelers to choose from. Prices and amenities range from budget to deluxe so there is plenty of choice for even the most discerning gay and lesbian traveler.

Today, Cordoba is moderately-sized city. The old town dates back many centuries and contains impressive architectural reminders of when Cordoba was the thriving capital of the Caliphate of Cordoba that governed almost all of the Iberian Peninsula. Tourism is especially intense in Cordoba during May because of the weather and May hosts three spectacular festivals. The May Crosses Festival, the Patios Festival and the Cordoba's Fair fill the month the music, dancing, color and pageantry. The Festival of Flamenco of Cordoba is celebrated every three years, the next is in 2010, with renowned and local guitarists. There are also bullfighting festivals during the year, especially in warmer months. During Easter week we can join in on one of the most spectacular religious processions ever seen. In the nearby town of Baena, there are 48 hours of non-stop drum playing in honor of this religious feast.

If good food is your thing, try the traditional gazpacho and some of the local refreshing ´fino´ (sweet wine). Cordorba is know famous for its large range of fried fish and seafood rice, good broiled or grilled steak and delicious sweet pastries.

Whilst in Cordoba, gay and lesbian travelers should explore the surrounding mountains, where you can go hiking in the Natural Park of the Subbetica mountain range or in the Hornachuelos mountain range. While in the Subbetica mountain range, you should visit the town of Zuheros with its ancient castle.

So, for gay and lesbian travelers seeking history, architecture, traditional culture, good food and wine, then Cordoba, Andalucia, Spain has much to offer.
