Gay New Plymouth

New Plymouth, North Island
New Zealand

New Plymouth, North Island, New Zealand.
Gay and Lesbian Hotels, Inns and Guest Houses - Reviews and Ratings. Gay and Lesbian Travel.

Taranaki, on New Zealand’s North Island's west coast, juts into the Tasman Sea and is half way between Auckland and Wellington. Mount Taranaki dominates the skyline, a huge, dramatic volcanic cone with a snowy top. The hub of the area is New Plymouth, well-known for its black sand surfing beaches and glorious parks and gardens, particularly the dazzling array of rhododendrons and azaleas on display in spring. Many of the neighborhood private gardens are open for public viewing year round. In contrast with New Zealand’s outdoorsy lifestyle, New Plymouth has an artsy heart. The town is home to the acclaimed Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, New Zealand's only contemporary art museum with a permanent collection. Like other pockets lying ‘off the beaten track’, the area has become home to a plethora of potters, craftspeople and other artists providing a large range of galleries and studios to explore

New Plymouth offers a good selection of gay friendly hotels, inns and guesthouses for the traveling gay and lesbian visitor. Prices and amenities range from budget to deluxe so there is plenty of choice for even the most discerning gay and lesbian traveler.

The town has become a mecca for trampers, climbers and surfers alike, all seeking the thrills that New Plymouth’s natural landscape has to offer. Mt Taranaki, the ‘most climbed mountain’ in New Zealand, provides safe access to skiing, tramping, climbing and photography. Looking remarkably like Mt Fuji in Japan, the cone is surrounded by lush green countryside and feeds over 50 rivers and steams.

For the non-climbing gay and lesbian traveler, try diving at the Sugar Loaf Islands Marine Park. A refuge for seabirds, New Zealand fur seals and marine life, the islands host a number of activities including boating, sailing, diving, bird watching, pole fishing, surfing and beach walks. A world class surfing and windsurfing haven, Fitzroy and East End beaches are at the eastern side of New Plymouth. Surf shops rent out boards, offer instruction, and provide the latest updates on conditions and forecasts.

So, whether you’re looking for active or more relaxed, kick-back vacation, New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand has plenty to offer the gay and lesbian traveler.
