Gay Singapore

Singapore, Asia.
Gay and Lesbian Hotels, Inns and Guest Houses - Reviews and Ratings. Gay and Lesbian Travel.

Although its former colonial masters in Britain have long since repealed most of their anti-gay laws, in Singapore they are still on the books. However, since 2000, all reports seem to indicate that the government has taken more or less a live and let live policy, and the laws are not often enforced. The result is a developing gay scene, although one that is still very discrete. Singapore has a very hot Asian gay scene going these days. The pink dollar is fueling a renaissance of gay-owned and gay-managed businesses across the island. The tourist area of Chinatown already has several dozen rainbow venues filling up heritage buildings and attracting a steady flow of local clientele and in-the-know international gay and lesbian travelers.

Singapore has a limited range of gay and lesbian hotels, inns and guesthouses. However, there are a number of gay friendly hotels, inns, guesthouses and bed and breakfast accommodations for the gay and lesbian traveler to choose from. Prices and amenities range from budget to deluxe so there is plenty of choice for even the most discerning gay and lesbian traveler. Most hotels are located in the Orchard-Marina corridor near the major tourist attractions of Singapore, shopping and business.

Singapore is a melting pot of cultures and each with their own cuisines. It’s quite easy to find Chinese, Indian, Malay and Indonesian food. The closest thing Singapore has to a native cuisine, referred to as Nonya, mixes Chinese ingredients with Malay herbs and spices. Of course, as with any big international city, you can easily find the foods of just about every culture on the planet. You just have to know where to look. The latest place to dine with a great view is the collection of restaurants attached to the new Esplanade performing arts center. It sits on the waterfront near the Suntec City and Marina complexes, facing the skyscrapers of the business district. Restaurants range widely in both cuisine and levels of service.

The island has loads of safe and clean multi-ethnic neighborhoods just ripe for exploring. The range of shopping malls will keep the intrepid gay and lesbian shop-a-holic giddy with retail opportunities and the inexpensive world-class hotels offer great variety and choice. There are also plenty of recreation and relaxation venues too and a very vibrant nightlife you’d expect from an international city.

Singapore isn't exactly known for its beaches, but it does have them and they are quite popular with the locals. There are two main areas:East Coast Park sprawls along the airport parkway between the airport and the central business district, and is probably the favorite outdoor hangout for Singaporeans. You can rent equipment at several spots for canoeing, wind surfing, cycling and roller-blading in case you get bored of lying on the beach. The other area is Sentosa that has some fine beaches on its ocean side, all carefully maintained with imported sand no less.

So, if you’re looking for relaxation, culture, history, great shopping, world class cuisine and vibrant nightlife, Singapore has it all for the gay and lesbian traveler to enjoy.
