Gay Cape May

Cape May, New Jersey

Cape May, New Jersey, USA.
Gay and Lesbian Hotels, Inns and Guest Houses - Reviews and Ratings. Gay and Lesbian Travel.

Cape May is a city at the southern tip of Cape May Peninsula in Cape May County, New Jersey, where the Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. Cape May was founded in 1620 by the Dutch Captain Mey and after being briefly settled by New England whalers in the late 1600s, it turned in the eighteenth century to more profitable farming and tourism. In 1745, the first advertisement for Cape May's restorative air and fine accommodation appeared in the Philadelphia press, heralding a period of great prosperity, when Southern plantation owners, desiring cool sea breezes without having to venture into Yankee land, flocked to the fashionable ‘ginger bread’ boarding houses of this genteel "resort of Presidents."

Cape May has a great selection of gay and gay friendly hotels, inns, guesthouses and traditional bed and breakfast accommodation for the gay and lesbian traveler to choose from. Prices and amenities range from budget to luxurious so there is plenty of choice for even the most discerning gay and lesbian traveler.

Today the whole town is a National Historic Landmark, with over six hundred Victorian buildings, tree-lined streets and beautifully kept gardens, and a lucrative B&B industry. Some gay and lesbian travelers suggest Cape May teeters dangerously on self-parody at times, partly due to the glut of cutesy olde shoppes. But by avoiding the main drags and wander through the back streets, you'll find an appealing combination of historical authenticity and Cape May’s great beaches.

Cape May is considered to have one of America's top 10 beaches, as well as a top birding location on the East Coast. The Cape May area is a world-famous location for the observation of migrating birds, especially in fall. Over 400 bird species have been recorded in this area so Cape May is arguably the top bird-watching area in the entire Northeastern United States. The Cape May Bird Observatory is based nearby at Cape May Point.

So, for lovers of Victorian structures, rich history, outstanding natural wild life, award winning beaches, great shopping and excellent dining, Cape May is a seaside resort that attracts gay and lesbian travelers from all over the world.
