For the gay and lesbian shopaholic, Bali is a shoppers paradise. There are bargains galore, and best buys include modern artwork, leather goods, casual summer clothing, shoes, jeans, CDs, T-shirts, furniture and pottery. For those who do not want to wander too far from the beach, Sanur, Kuta and Legian have more than enough to appease any shopper's withdrawal symptoms. Bargains include sarongs, sandals, wooden statues, Javanese puppets, silver and surf boards.

Real Balinese food is not readily available to tourists unless a Balinese family invites you to a meal. Restaurants or hotels do not serve authentic Balinese dishes The reason is that Balinese dishes require a great deal of preparation and it has to be eaten when it is fresh. Dishes are often spicy and very tasty. The Balinese traditionally used banana leaves as plates.

A point of etiquette, the Balinese eat with their right hand, as the left is impure, a common belief throughout Indonesia. The Balinese do not hand or receive things with their left hand and would not waive at anyone with their left hand.
