Gay Port Douglas

Port Douglas, Queensland
Australia

Port Douglas, Queensland, Australia.
Gay and Lesbian Hotels, Inns and Guest Houses - Reviews and Ratings. Gay and Lesbian Travel.

Take the spectacular coastal road from Cairns and one hour later, you’ll arrive at Port Douglas, Queensland, the only place on earth where two World heritage listed jewels exist; the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforest of Daintree and Cape Tribulation. With a perfect climate, Port Douglas has attracted domestic and international gay and lesbian travelers in search of a laid-back seaside village with style. This is a place to experience nature at its very best; aquamarine reef waters of the Coral Sea, the crystal creeks of Mossman Gorge, and the palm fringed golden sands of Port Douglas Four Mile Beach.

Port Douglas offers the gay and lesbian traveler a range of gay hotels, inns, guesthouses and resorts to suite all tastes and budgets. Gay and gay friendly accommodations range from luxury resorts like the Mai Tai Resort and villas found at the Pink Flamingo and Reflections of Port Douglas, to riverside guesthouses and boutique apartments such as offered by Marcrossan in the center of town.

And choice is not limited only to accommodation. Port Douglas has some of the finest restaurants on the Queensland coastline. Fresh seafood and modern Australian, Mediterranean and Asian influences combine to produce mouth-watering dishes. The range of award winning restaurants and chic cafes gives the discerning gay and lesbian traveler plenty of choice.

The climate is comfortably tropical all year round with maximum temperatures of 31º C in the summer and 26° C in the winter. During the cooler, “dry season” (June thru October) the days are balmy and the evenings pleasantly cool (26 - 17 degrees Celsius). Summertime, or the “green season” (November to May), means warmer days with rain, or what the locals call “liquid sunshine”. Sea temperatures range from 23.2 C in July to 28.7C in February, just like a warm bath.

As for things to do, Port Douglas is not short on options. Soak up the sunshine on the 4 Mile Beach, luxuriate in a soothing spa, stroll through the village shops, galleries, historic buildings and the seaside Sunday market. If you’re feeling energetic, then why not play a round of golf, or go diving and snorkeling the reef, or sail the waterways.

World Heritage rainforests are also within easy reach of Port Douglas. The lush green coastal strip of the Daintree National Park in the Cape Tribulation region to the north of Port Douglas is home to the oldest living rainforest on earth and is a treasure trove of rare plant and animal species. Daintree National Park is divided into three main areas. Mossman Gorge with its lush Tropical rainforest and Creek scenery and great for bird watching and wildlife viewing; Daintree National Park, home to unique bird life and a haven for crocodile spotting and Cape Tribulation, where the tropical rainforest and coral reefs meet on the coast sandy beaches, with mangroves and swamps.

And of course, there is the Great Barrier Reef, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. This underwater botanical garden is one of the most diverse ecosystems on earth. A living home to thousands of marine plants and animal species stretching more than two thousand kilometers along the Queensland Coast to form the world's largest reef system. Giant clams and small shells, starfish and sea cucumbers, anemones, turtles, eels, rays, sponges - there is just so much to see on the spectacular Great Barrier Reef. The range of reef tours available also means there is a trip to suit everyone, whether you are a certified diver, novice diver, snorkeled or non-swimmer.

So, whether you’re looking for sun, sea, fun, relaxation, nature, great dining and warm Aussie hospitality, then Port Douglas, Queensland has it all for the gay and lesbian traveler.
