Gay Napa

Napa, California

Napa, California, USA.
Gay and Lesbian Hotels, Inns and Guest Houses - Reviews and Ratings. Gay and Lesbian Travel.

By Californian standards, Napa, California, is an old City. Founded in 1847, it has a past steeped in history; the springboard for the 49’ers heading for the gold rush, the birthplace of famous leather, and on more than a nodding acquaintance with some of the most prestigious vineyards in the world.

Napa is home to many fine gay friendly hotels, inns, guesthouses and bed and breakfast accommodations that meet the needs of the most discerning gay and lesbian traveler. If you are planning to visit, remember that the summer months and grape harvest time are the busiest months of the year so book well ahead.

Although the town’s early reputation relied upon its tanneries and prune processing plants, it is tourism and hospitality, fine dining, luxury hotels and Napa’s location as the gateway to the world famous vineyards that now defines its attraction.

Napa is a vibrant and modern town with a respectful nod to its past. Visitors to Napa will find the historic districts, home to some of northern California's finest Victorian homes sitting comfortably side by side with visually stunning contemporary architecture. The ever-popular Main Street "Restaurant Row" already attracts visitors from all over the world and its reputation is growing better by the day.

Getting to Napa couldn’t be easier. It is just 46 miles from San Francisco, which is where the nearest airport is located, 82 miles from San Jose, 59 miles from Sacramento.

Of course, many visitors to Napa use it as a starting or finishing point for a journey through the vineyards of the Napa Valley. By the end of the 19th Century there were around one hundred and forty wineries in the area. Of those original wineries, several still exist today including Charles Krug Winery, Shramsburg, Chateau Montelena and Beringer. Perhaps the one name that encapsulates the very heart of wine making in this region is the icon Robert Mondavi who broke away from his family's Charles Krug estate in 1965 to found his own.

In addition to large scale wineries, Napa Valley's boutique wineries produce some of the world's best wines. Today Napa Valley features more than two hundred wineries and grows many different grape varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Zinfandel. Napa Valley is visited by as many as five million people each year, making it the second most popular tourist destination in California, second only to Disneyland.

So, if you are looking for relaxation, great food and wine, history and spectacular scenery, Napa, California has plenty to offer the gay and lesbian traveler.
