Gay Great Barrier Reef

Great Barrier Reef, Queensland

Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia.
Gay and Lesbian Hotels, Inns and Guest Houses - Reviews and Ratings. Gay and Lesbian Travel

The Great Barrier Reef, designated a World Heritage Area in 1981, is one of the world’s most important natural assets. It is the largest natural feature on earth stretching more than 2,300km along the northeast coast of Australia from the northern tip of Queensland to just north of Bundaberg. There is no end to the range of activities for the gay and lesbian traveler to enjoy. These include aircraft or helicopter tours, sail boat hire, tours on high-speed catamarans, diving and fishing charters, whale watching, customized tours or just lazing on a white sand beach.

The waterfront city of Cairns is the gateway to the magnificent natural attractions of the reef and rain forest. Much of the gay-friendly holiday hotels, inns, guesthouses and bed and breakfast accommodations are close to shops, restaurants, theatres, galleries and nightclubs. The beaches of Cairns stretch for 17 miles along a beautiful coastline that begins just north of the city and the sugar cane fields. The beaches are made up of Holloways, Yorkeys Knob, Trinity, Kewarra, Clifton, Palm Cove and Elllis Beaches.

The hub of the reef and coastal rainforest is “laid back” Port Douglas, just 40 miles north of Cairns airport along a spectacular scenic coastal drive. From the stunning sweep of its 4 Mile Beach to the wilderness of Dicksons Inlet, the world famous seaside village of Port Douglas has become an international vacation mecca with gay friendly hotels, guesthouses, inns and bed and breakfast accommodations, world class restaurants and shopping.

If the Great Barrier Reef is unforgettable, then the rainforests of the Wet Tropics of Tropical North Queensland offer an equally inspiring natural experience. The quiet, unspoiled Daintree village is a great place to stay. The Cape Tribulation area offers a wide range of excellent gay and lesbian gay-friendly accommodation, from self-contained rainforest backpacker hostels and lodges to 4 star hotels and resorts and cabins. Cape Tribulation, - so named by Captain Cook - is one of the only areas in the world where the rainforest meets the reef.

So, for a truly life event vacation, the Great Barrier Reef and the towns of Cairns and Port Douglas, Queensland has it all for the gay and lesbian traveler.
