Last winter my bf and I were staying on St Martin and did a day trip to St. Barts. We were really impressed by St. Barts, and would like to spend a week or so there early next year. I notice Pink Choice does not yet have any listings for St. Barts. We found everyone in the main town very friendly, and there were loads of gay people about. We didn't get a chance to explore the island, and we were wondering about the best places to stay. Do any Pink Choice members have any recommendations for locations and lodging options? edited by seattlekid on 6/18/2009

We stayed at La Banane in Lorient back in 2004 and it was fantastic. Not exclusively gay, but we could be ourselves without any embarassment. The grounds of La Banane are very secluded. Furnishings were simple, but very stylish. Location was pretty good, but you really need a car for getting round the island. We rented a Smart car which was great fun! We spent a lot of our time during the day on the beach adjacent to Hotel St. Barts Isle de France. Non-residents are welcome and they have great beach chairs with very attentive cocktail waiters! The hotel has a beachside restaurant, and is the perfect location for a leisurely lunch before more sunbathing! St Barts is a welcoming island for gay travelers, and has a European feel. The only downside is that accommodation and dining costs are very high, so its not the place to go if you are on a tight budget.

We stayed at the Francoise Plantation a couple of years ago. Not bad but a little way out. We checked out La Banane and it looked great. We plan to stay there this winter. Eden Rock was a cool place for lunch and a pretty decent dinner spot. St Barts is not inexpensive particularly if the dollar is weak against the Euro. Beaches are great but watch the under-tow.
