Lauderdale is the same today as it was years ago, minus the college crowd during spring break. There was always attitude at some of the bars or restaurants.... And I go back to the days of the Marlin Beach hotel.......and i can just hear someone saying "He's older than god himself".... There's always a bartender that figures he is underpaid, overworked and undertipped and give the same type of service. One who gives an attitude, gets the tip to match. You can find some top notch restaurants in Lauderdale with no attitude whatsoever. Try one of the best seafood places in Florida "Seawatch". It's on A1A, north of Commercial. Attitude not only applies at the bar, but at some of the hotels... We have always had good reception at Schubert Resort,Villa Venice, Marys. You want attitude, visit some of the spots in Miami and South Beach.. It makes Lauderdale look like paradise....

I do think Ft Lauderdale is changing. The beaches no longer have any free parking. There are mega hotels (like the new Trump) going up all around the small, cozy gay resorts. Each year, more and more small hotels get knocked down just to add another mega building.
I do still enjoy some of the gay men's resorts. The Villa Venice is stunning and very classy. The Worthington used to be my favorite but the last time I was there, there was a major hours-long orgy in the hot tub and pool which ruined the stay for the rest of us. The Blue Dolphin was nice at first but had women guests at our last stay. Other resorts have cancelled clothing optional availability and now are "gay friendly" but not gay only.
So, yes, Ft Lauderdale is changing but there are still good place like Villa Venice, The Worthington, Tropics and Rosie's.

I agree that Ft Lauderdale is changing - it seems to be suffering from the economic downtown. My partner and I recently stayed at Pineapple Point for the third time - ( check out its reviews - is a very attractive place with great friendly service - we have posted our review and would definitely recommend!) - and were alarmed at the changes on Las Olas Boulevard and in the River District Downtown. So many retail units closed down, familiar shops and cafes ( Stork and Audace on Las Olas? ) we've been visiting for years have gone.
The Riverwalk is looking decidedly seedy - the landscape is not being maintained properly and the riverside building needs a good coat of paint and to get some tenants back. Guess the City has been impacted by lower tax revenues, and visitor numbers and it shows.
