A great place to retreat to
This could be a lengthy review as there is so much that is good to report on El Cortijo La Prensa.
Travel directions are good and the meandering roads through hilly olive groves on the final few kilometres helps a wonderful feeling of "escape" and retreat to settle.
From the moment of booking directly there was a real sense of friendliness, helpfulness and promptness from Manuel. Always a good sign.
I was met by the manager David whose warm welcome hit the right note; efficient, friendly, and hospitable.
My bedroom was really spacious, well appointed AND with fresh flowers. As a Scot I miss my tea making facilities in Spanish hotels so to have this provided here was unexpected and a superb touch. Bed was how I imagine "grandma's feather bed" - big, comfy and cosy.
The whole place was clean and thoughtfully laid out and appointed. Being the Christmas season, the Cortijo was tastefully adorned with nativity decoration . It was clear that great thought had gone into this. It felt as if the decorations were respectful of their purpose at this time of year. And the open log fire was a real treat.
Dining was quite an experience - restaurant beautifully presented, tableware and decor excellent. And the food - probably the best I have experienced in many a country, not just Spain - the presentation was awesome, and the food flavours and the sauces out of this world. Try the olive ice cream!
Service from the barman / waiter Juan was simply first rate professionalism - impeccable in balancing friendliness with effectiveness.
I had the good fortune to be there when the English owners were present - their hospitality and kindness to me as a solo traveller was much appreciated. They truly fit the description of "mine hosts par excellence."
All the staff work well as a team to make this a wondeful venue for a long weekend away, a retreat, or even to base guests and hold a function such as a wedding.
To top it all, the massage by Gonzalo and his wife Maite, was powerful in the extreme.
High standards and excellent friendly service must surely contribute to El Cortijo becoming more and more successful.
Thank you all.
