Still The Best
I have now made a habit of writing my hotel reviews while I am still staying at the hotel in question. So I suppose something could go terribly wrong that might change my long list of "exceptional" reviews for this hotel, but I doubt it. Keep in mind, it isn't the "Bathhouse" style cruisy place it was 4 years ago...but I'm ok with that. What has replaced it is a level of service that you typically don't find in Gay & Lesbian owned properties. Aside from the spotless accommodations, the staff here are what really makes this place shine. Miho, who checked me in, was incredibly helpful and friendly. She assisted me with a car rental and had lots of suggestions for ways to make the most of my tours of the island. I do miss the breakfast and happy hour as it gave the guests a chance to interact with one another...but at $80 bucks a night, I can see where it was a wise choice to cut. If you are inclined to favor gay owned and operated establishments when you travel then I can't recommend the Cabana at Waikiki enough. You are a short walk to the beach, a short walk to Hula's, a wonderful gay bar, and everything is within reach. If you want a view of the ocean, well then stick to some of the pricier options along the shore. But I can be at the beach in less than 5 minutes and the Cabana's "Bang for the Buck" can't be beat.
