Good but nothing spectacular
We stayed five nights at the Four Seasons Los Vegas which sits on top of the Mandalay Bay. Close to the airport so no need to get the courtesy limo. It’s also the most southerly located hotel on the strip which means quite long walks or getting a cab to all the other hotels, shows, restaurants.

Check-in was sloppy and not very friendly, which might have been due to the fact that the strip lost all gas supply that morning because of a construction accident. So no hot water, or hot food anywhere.

The room was comfortable as one would expect. Breakfast in the Verandah Restaurant was plentiful, room service excellent but the Charlie Palmer Restaurant disappointing.

For the price we were paying we were annoyed not to have free internet access, something offered by smaller hotels and guesthouses we have stayed in.

Overall, a comfortable stay. The big plus for us was the fact that we would enjoy the energy of Las Vegas and then be able to return to the peace and comfort of a non-casino hotel. And we didn’t have to walk miles through a throbbing casino to get to our room.

PS: we saw KA (Amazing) and Phantom of the Opera (spectacular) this time around.

PPS: note that a lot of the shows are dark between Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays so check what’s showing before making your reservation.

PPPS: Whilst staying here, we learned that an exclusively gay hotel was about to reopen after a half million refurbishment. The Blue Moon Resort is set to reopen on Dec 21, 2006. Check it out. We plan to stay their on a future visit.
