Boutique hotel in heart of Marais gay village
The Marais has a number of boutique style hotels and the Villa Mazarin is right up there with the best. It is very well situated for bars, restaurants and clubs, plus some very good shopping. It is a relaxed area where you can stroll, sit and have coffee and watch the variety of life the Marais has to offer troll on by. The hotel delivers breakfast to your room is you want it, but there is a fab bakery only 100 yards up the road called Le Pain Quotidian that is by far the better option. The corner room we had was spacious and nicely presented with a good view up and down the street. One great restaurant recommendation would be Le Coupdefou which is around the corner and was fab - we went there two out of three nights which is always a good sign. Paris has never really down it for me (much prefer Rome, Barcelona and Seville etc) but this trip to the Villa Mazarin and the Marais made me re-think and I'll go back soon. (Tip - being there in August meant that many Parisiens were away from the city on vacation which meant that it was fairly quiet and we got a discount from 300 euros to 230 euros per night.)
