Another Great Stay at the Abbey
I’ve just returned from my 2nd visit to the Abbey Hotel in 2 years. I look forward to returning next year for a 3rd visit.

I return to the Abbey because I find it a first rate hotel that delivers what it promises – comfortable rooms (many with balconies offering stunning Pacific views); suites with working kitchens, dining table, coffee-maker and refrigerators; good beds; decent showers; free wifi; and a staff that is very competent, friendly and extremely helpful – with a great knowledge of PV’s charms, restaurants, excursions and, of course, gay scene.

The Abbey’s restaurant always is a great surprise; its breakfasts (killer omelet’s) and lunches (from massive and tasty salads to king-size quesadillas) are extremely tasty and reasonably priced. In addition, the Abbey attracts a wide variety of guys who always prove friendly and who leave their attitudes at home.

And, of course, the Abbey offers location, location, location. It is but a 2-minute walk to the ocean and 6-minute walk to the “Blue Chairs” gay beach – for which the Abbey gives guests giant-size beach towels.

To be sure, there are more elegant gay digs in PV, such as the excellent Casa Cupola, which, however, is much more costly than the Abbey and much much farther from the beach (and up a very very steep hill). And there may be more basic, cheaper gay options than the Abbey; but they don’t offer the views, location or quite as comfortable rooms as the Abbey. The only big complaint is that the pool is not heated, and thus few guys braved the pool during my visits. Yet competing hotels also don’t seem to heat their pools. Meanwhile, the Abbey hot tub was pleasantly hot.

All in all, I’m a pretty contented fan of the Abbey and already am looking forward to my return.
